Falkirk lies just above and between Glasgow and Edinburgh, a site of huge development during the Industrial Revolution. The massive Falkirk Wheel is well worth a visit: a boat lift connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, opened in 2002 and reconnecting the link between Edinburgh and Glasgow. If your interest lies in older feats of engineering, visit Blackness Castle, known as “the ship that never sailed”.
