The river running through the valley, the Afon Lwyd, was originally called Torfaen, or ‘rock breaker’, and where better to see how to put the power of rushing water to good use than at Llanyrafon Mill, one of only a handful of triple stone mills in the county. Perhaps you’d prefer the sailing, canoeing or fishing at Pontypool, or taking off into the countryside for some birdwatching.
